Acura RLX Sport Hybrid
The Supposed Buyer: For the person considering the midsize luxury hybrids like the Lexus GS450h or Mercedes-Benz E400 Hybrid, or V-8 luxury cars like the BMW 550i and Audi S6. Never mind the fact that not many people buy them. That'll mean the very few baby-boomers on the younger end of the scale who care about the environment or people whose RL leases are up.
The Actual Buyer: Any wealthy buyer who has stuck to Honda product through and through, scared of BMW service cost and perception. Think ZDX owners (or more likely, lessees) who wish to stay loyal to Acura but want the most expensive car in the showroom. Either that or they're just getting the RLX because the least expensive Tesla Model S doesn't have enough of a range for their needs.

People who are still feeling the aftermath of the recession that can no longer afford their Mercedes, BMW, or Audi will be "downgrading" to the RLX. It's a good alternative.
I think that is fairly accurate.

I would say the actual buyer is someone who says they chose the RLX because they like it better than the Germans, but actually just didn't make quite enough money to get that Bimmer that they really wanted.

I don't think so. The RLX hybrid will probably cost MORE than most German rivals.
If the RLX is that expensive don't you think it will not sell that many. Why get a hybrid RLX when you could get a Benz or a Bimmer for less money? It's tough competition out there. I would have thought that Acura would be engaged in more competitive pricing.

If the RLX ends up to be $60k then just how much more will a hybrid cost from Acura?
The leaks that people are believing are 66 or 67,000.

However, earlier in the year dealers were told between 70-80,000.

We're all hoping that the early prediction was just...wrong! :)

There are some very expensive parts in the RLX. Technology that makes the torque vectoring work off throttle. Three electric motors. Their first DCT.

I dunno.

Expensive stuff but I'm still hoping for around 66-67.

It would be tough to justify spending more than mid 60s on a hybrid RLX. Once you get into or close to the $70s I would rather buy an Audi S6 (fun, not as reliable) or a Land Cruiser... I could produce a longer list of cars I would buy for that money to prove my point, but Acura needs to stick to their roots and continue delivering cars that sell cheaper than its German rivals.

At least with the Audi, once you lease it and make sure you keep it within the warranty period you should be fine. Plus if issues come up and you have to let the dealer keep it for a number of days, you'll at least get a SWEET loaner car.

I have never read a more acurate market analysis in my life since it hits every point of one almost certain buyer, ME!
