The reviewer poses this question as he reviews the RLX. But how do you guys think the RLX measures up to the the competition?

Acura may not be a brand that you immediately associate with luxury but they're trying pretty hard to change your way of thinking with their 2014 RLX sedan, which they're tagging as an "affordable luxury" option. As possibly their most lavish offering yet, (yes, even more so than their sporty models) the RLX beefs up everything from the interior space to the all-wheel steering system.

Acura is struggling to keep up with the rest of the entry level luxury vehicle market. Not sure how well the RLX will do, it will get a good number of buyers that are loyal to the brand, but probably a small number of people new to the brand.

Kia & Hyundai might have them beat here. the Equus and Quoris are really nice sedans, some might say they are better than the RLX.

By no means does the Acura RLs or the new RLX comes by as an affordable luxury sedan. That was their problem with the previous RL, they were too god **** expensive for what they were and for the new one if you do throw yourself in the 60k price range you need to be that much better and stand out. I wouldn't put the RLX at the very bottom of the segment but sure as **** not near the top either.

Indeed, their not affordable but much more affordable than other large sedans from the obvious expensive brands that make big sedans.

At least with the RLX, you can buy it and not have to worry much about it even after the warranty term is up. Out of all the luxury sedans in it's class it's probably the one with the best gas mileage.

I do agree with the Acura RLX being expensive. I dont think they will ever lower the price despite the fact of everyone's comments. But what they should do is bring up the quality and materials up a notch so people can justify spending the amount for the RLX. It would not be a smart move for them to lower the price.

I agree with scrow019.

The RLX isn't the best in the class but it isn't the worse either..
It does have two advantages that are obvious to me

1. It is unique. You own't see many of these on the road
2. It will likely last longer and be more reliable than all of its competitors 15 years later.

You guys do raise a good point although we don't rank up the RLX to be the most superior in its class but one thing they will be winning is reliability. I forsee the RLX to be a better seller and more in demand as a second hand vehicle.

Acura is generally recognized as an entry level luxury brand. It's not really meant to compete with the likes of Audi, Mercedes, or BMW. But what you get is affordability, reliability in a decent luxury package. With the RLX you get their best model to date, that isn't one of their SUV offerings.
